A BIT ABOUT WHO WE ARE
Who We Aim to Be
We are a team of dedicated students that work to raise awareness and fight human trafficking through the universal language of art. Being a non-profit club, any funds that are generated by the end of each year are going to be donated to help fight human trafficking in Mexico. Our inspiration comes from the realization that despite being a very prevalent problem, human trafficking is not considered a modern-day issue that needs to be discussed. We are a united body that hopes to reveal the pain of those whose bodies have been desecrated and corrupted through the use of force, coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power or vulnerability, or giving payments or benefits to a person in control of the victim. We are ARTemis.

Seunghyun Olyvia Baek is a Korean-American immigrant student, the cofounder and the current co-president of ARTemis Van Nuys High School. Wanting to fight against human trafficking, she founded the club ARTemis in order to raise awareness and funds against human trafficking. Her background as a singer in her school vocal program led her to establish ARTemis as a club that uses various forms of art in order to fight human trafficking. Balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, hobbies, and her social life, she still strives to see justice for victims of human trafficking.
Gyujin Hong is a Korean-American immigrant student who is the cofounder and co-president of ARTemis alongside Olyvia. Wanting to use art to change the world she help initiate ARTemis and establish it as a club. Her hobbies of painting, crafting, playing various instruments, martial arts, and her desire to express herself and present a message educating people of human trafficking lead her to be a cofounder of ARTemis. She wants to see people united and aware of the problems of human trafficking in its various forms.
